How appeals are dealt with in AT0TC

The aristocracy doesn't really listen or care about personal appeals. When the boy is run over, the Marquis does nothing, but hand a coin to the father, and drives off. He doesn't care about the peasants problems at all. All he cares about is himself and his wealth.

The revolutionaries are just as bad as the aristocracy. Because they hate the aristocracy so much they don't listen to their appeals. When Darnay travels back to France he is arrested, and when he let out he goes back to court the next day. The peasants have such a hatred for the aristocracy that Darnay can't get out the second time.
